NDT Testing on Utility Piping Systems

Non Destructive Testing on

Utility Piping Systems

GGS performs non destructive NDT testing on in-service utility piping systems. We scan your in-service piping without cutting holes or removing the jacketing and insulation to provide a complete data set with accurate information.

Our Approach

for Utility Piping Systems

GGS understand the characteristics of utility piping systems, how and where damage can occur, and how it progresses over time. This results in an approach that is specific to your environment and testing that is conscious of the functions of your system. Whether you are performing a routine assessment, evaluating for maintenance or need to learn more about suspect areas, our experience ensures pragmatic results.

Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC)

FAC is the internal degradation of pipe wall thickness. This happens as a result of high velocity liquid droplets entrained in a vapor process stream, which impacts the pipe. FAC usually occurs at flow direction changes such as elbows, tees, and reducers. FAC is the most common type of degradation found at both fossil and nuclear power plants.

Cavitation

Cavitation is the formation of vapor cavities in a liquid. Cavitation can occur at valves when they are used to throttle water-flow at a power generation plant. Wall loss due to cavitation can resemble an interior surface that appears as if it was intentionally machined away.

Reported Conditions

for Utility Piping Systems

Gamma Graphics non destructive testing results in reliable diagnostic data on your utility piping system. We detect and measure the following system components and damage mechanisms present in utility process piping and vessels:

  • Pipe Schedule
  • Pipe Wall Thickness
  • Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
  • Erosion
  • Welds

Your testing report can be used to support multiple facility management initiatives. Our hard copy and electronic evaluations include quantitative and qualitative data of each individual scanned location.
